Malaysia has the potential to develop Muslim tourism by offering various facilities and infrastruture for the need of Muslim tourists especially the wide variety of halal food and mosques, according to the Malaysian Association of Tour and Travel Agents (Matta) as saying.

Part of the move to attract Muslim tourists, Matta is organising the first International Conference on Muslim Tourism, Haj and Umrah Packages 2008 (InCoMTHU ’08) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on May 22, reported state news agency Bernama.

"The conference will elaborate the latest updates and challenges in managing Haj and Umrah pilgrimage travel as well as to explore and discuss business opportunities in the development of Muslim tourism, not only within

the Muslim world but also with non-Muslim countries," Matta’s deputy president, Datuk Mohd Khalid Harun was quoted as telling a press conference in Kuala Lumpur Wednesday.

The day-long conference with the theme "Striving for Excellence and Glory in Muslim Travel and Tourism" was jointly organised by the Pilgrims Fund Board (Tabung Haji), Al Rajhi Bank, Universiti Teknologui Mara (UiTM), Embassy of Saudi Arabia, Syria Tourism Boad, Shahidah Travel Singapore and Asosiasi Muslim Penyelenggara Haj & Umrah Republik Indonesia.
