The Singapore office of Tourism Malaysia held a promotional drive with the hope to attracting 10.2 million tourists from the island republic, excluding day trippers, to Malaysia this year.
The figure is an increase of one per cent if Tourism Malaysia has met its target of 10.1 million Singaporean visitors to Malaysia last year.
Tourism Malaysia's director in Singapore Rafidah Idris and its marketing officials met with about 200 local travel agents, hoteliers, transport operators and the media at a reception here to introduce new event-based destinations and its new website to promote tour packages in Malaysia.
Speaking at the reception, Rafidah said Tourism Malaysia was confident of achieving its target of 10.1 million visitors from Singapore last year.
"Malaysia expects to achieve its target of 20.1 million international tourists for Visit Malaysia Year 2007," she said.
Rafidah said Tourism Malaysia was encouraging Singaporeans to visit the east coast and northern states of Peninsular Malaysia, namely Kelantan, Terengganu and Kedah, which were having their own state campaigns this year.
"We are also promoting Malaysia as the complete MICE (meeting, incentive, convention and exhibition) hub with the many facilities and services available in the sector."
She said about 1.3 million visitors from Singapore were expected to travel to Kuala Lumpur by coach this year.
