Opposition parties a desperate lot, says Zahid

The opposition parties are becoming desperate about their chances in the upcoming election as the Barisan Nasional (BN) government had successfully implemented numerous development projects for the people, said Deputy Information Minister Datuk Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said the opposition knew that the BN had brought development for the people's benefit and resorted to asking them to reject the BN due to their unhappiness over certain government policies.

"Don't try to hoodwink the people by twisting facts as BN representatives at all levels have done a good job in taking care of the people's welfare," he told reporters after presenting excellent awards at the Man Bail Ulum religious school in Sungai Nipah Darat here today.

The setting up of the National Price Council to monitor increases in the prices of essential items showed that the BN government was sensitive to problems faced by the people, he said.

Zahid also said the Election Commission's (EC) decision to use indelible ink in the coming general election was proof that it was transparent in running the election.

He refuted allegations that the EC was responsible for 'phantom voters' and that it was the opposition parties and not BN who transferred voters elsewhere.

As such, BN leaders at all levels should explain this to the people so that they were not confused by opposition parties out fishing for votes, he added.
