Malaysian ICT firms see potential business
Organised by the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade), the mission to Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Muscat was held in conjunction with Gitex Technology Week 2010 from Nov 17 to 21 in Dubai.
Matrade's senior trade commissioner Datuk Dzulkifli Mahmud said potential deals in ICT services worth RM52.6 million were recorded by the Malaysians with prospective clients from Dubai and surrounding areas.
And the Malaysian ICT delegates were looking at orders to the tune of RM25.2 million in Oman, the Dubai-based trade official told Bernama.
He said the potential deals involved ICT services such as smart cards, education solutions, security and e-government, management solutions, in-vehicle mobility services, web hosting and sharepoint as well as fleet management system.
Dzulkifli disclosed that in Oman, Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd inked a memorandum of understanding with Omani firm Zubair Corporation LLC to pursue ICT projects in that country.
The projects include healthcare information management system, security system, fleet tracking and management system as well as judicial system.
A total of 13 Malaysian ICT companies took part in Gitex 2010, including four small and medium enterprises from Cyberjaya, Malaysia's "Silicon Valley".
They held about 90 business meetings besides attending roundtable discussions with government-linked telecommunication players both in the UAE and Oman.
Dzulkifli vowed that Matrade Dubai would continue to promote Malaysian ICT products and services in this market.
"Companies here recognise Malaysia's capabilities in providing ICT solutions at par with those offered by firms from developed countries," he added.
