Malaysia’s Jaks Resources Bhd has signed various memoranda of agreement with relevant authorities and government agencies in Vietnam on the proposed development of a 1,200-MW thermal power project in Hai Doung, reported Malaysian state news agency Bernama.

The project would be developed under a build-operate-transfer structure and run as an independent power plant with 25-year power purchase agreement with the national utility company, Vietnam Electricity, Jaks told Bursa Malaysia. Construction of the project was slated to start in the last quarter of this year.

The commercial operation for the first unit of 600MW was scheduled in the fourth quarter of 2014 and the remaining 600MW would follow in second quarter 2015.
