Malaysia: Government-linked firms to lead growth

The government-linked companies (GLCs) are expected to play a prominent role in the development of the economy by venturing into new fields which have good potentials, state news agency Bernama reported.

"We want the GLCs to play a role in helping build a high income-based new economic model," said Second Finance Minister Ahmad Husni. He said the 2010 Budget aimed to spur and change the economy to one that was high income-based.

"The aim is achievable via efforts to create a positive environment for local and foreign investments," he said, adding that the budget would focus on economic development of all sectors to boost the well-being of the people.
