Indonesian: New bill passed to set up independent tourism board
The Indonesian parliament passed a new tourism bill on Wednesday to launch an independent board in charge of the promotion of Indonesian domestic and overseas tourism.

"The Tourism Promotion Board is an independent body. It will not be under any government institution. It will thus have greater freedom to develop creative ideas and promote Indonesia overseas," the Jakarta Post daily on Thursday quoted a lawmaker Djabaruddin Ahmad as saying.

The Indonesian Tourism Promotion Board is expected to conduct all promotion-related activities, including coordinating promotional works of central and local tourism enterprises.

The board may conduct promotional activities more effectively than before, because the formal tourism superintendent, Indonesian Culture and Tourism Ministry, is "slow and bureaucratic", the lawmaker said.
