Indonesia's exports of cars in built-up form rose 12.2 percent to 3,269 units in August, from the rock bottom of 2,914 units in the previous month, a report on the website of state news agency Antara said.

The increase in monthly exports was a good sign for the country's car making industry, according to the Indonesian association of motor vehicles (Gaikindo).

Exports in August, however, were 57.1 percent lower year-on-year, with sales in the same month last year reaching 7,090 units, association secretary general Freddy Sutrisno was quoted as saying.

The trend was expected to continue until the end of this year. Cumulatively exports in the first eight months of this year reached 36,015 units, down from 67,412 units in the same period last year.
