Indonesian telco operator says network sharing to reduce 40% investment cost
A leading Indonesia telecommunication operator has claimed that if network sharing was allowed by the government, it could reduce investment costs by 40 percent.
The Communications and Information Ministry had prepared at the beginning of the year to allow network sharing with the Multi-Operator Core Network (MOCN) scheme, despite a regulation permitting the scheme had yet to be issued.
“We have been waiting the rule to be implemented. With the MOCN scheme we can reduce investment costs,” President director Dian Siswarini told The Jakarta Post on the sidelines of a Post event, Accelerating Infrastructure Development, on Tuesday.
Dian said XL Axiata had cooperated with Indosat Oreedoo to share a 4G LTE network in four cities using Muti Operator Radio Access Network (MORAN). One radio transmitter handling two operators resulted in 20 percent cost efficiency.
“The quicker the rule is issued, the quicker we can plan. We need to reach 50.2 percent internet penetration by 2019,” Dian said.

Indonesia to launch 13th economic package this month
Coordinating Economic Minister Darmin Nasution said on Wednesday that the government would release its 13th economic policy package in August, adding that the draft had been completed.
Darmin said the 13th package was largely an extension of the previous one, but would expand its focus beyond industry. The 12th package focused on small and medium enterprises.
"We are just waiting to schedule a meeting with the president," Darmin told reporters at his office. He refused to give the exact date the new policy package would come into effect.
The ministry team must meet with President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo one more time to finalize the details, Darmin said.
