Indonesian state telecommunications firm PT Telekomunikasi Indonesia (Telkom) booked 11.332 trillion rupiah ($1.24 billion) in net profit, in 2009 an increase of 6.7 percent from 10.619 trillion rupiah in 2008.

“The achievement was supported by a 25 percent increase in subscribers to 81.6 million in 2009,” Telkom president director Rinaldi Firmansyah said in a press release published Thursday.

He said the net profit was contributed by overall revenue increasing by 6.4 percent to 64.597 trillion rupiah from 60.7 trillion rupiah in 2008.

“The good performance of Telkom will make the company stronger this year and this will strengthen growth making it more sustainable and profitable,” Rinaldi said.

This year Telkom allocates $2.2 billion to capital expenditure of which 70 percent is contributed by Telkom’s subsidiary Telkomsel, which is also the biggest contributor to overall revenue.
