Huawei to construct Indo-Malaysia sea cables
Networks will lead the construction of an underwater cable system between Melaka in Malaysia and Dumai and Batam in Indonesia in order to improve the bandwidth in the two countries. "This new system will satisfy the soaring demand for international communications," Huawei Marine chief financial officer Zhou Jin said in a statement, as quoted by tempointeraktif.com. The system will cross the Malacca Strait, an area of busy shipping lanes and strong tidal currents. The area has mostly shallow water with a maximum depth of 60 meters. The cable route will have 8 pipeline and sea-cable crossings in relatively short distances, and Huawei aims to complete the system by the fourth quarter of 2011. Huawei Marine will cooperate with local telecommunications operator PT XL Axiata and Malaysia's Telekom Malaysia in the project.
