Enough beef in Indonesia
Agriculture Minister Suswono says he is confident that there will be enough beef for everybody during this year's Idul Fitri holiday. “We have enough cattle to meet the demand for beef during this year's Idul Fitri season,” Suswono said Friday as quoted by Antara news wire. He added that the ministry had recorded stocks of at least 14.8 million cattle as of June this year. Suswono also said the ministry had imported more cattle from neighboring countries including Australia in efforts to meet the seasonal increase in demand for beef. In the lead up to the Idul Fitri holidays, prices of basic foods such as beef and rice usually increase. Earlier, it was reported that in Depok, for example, the price 1 kilogram of beef had jumped to Rp 75,000 per kg, up from Rp 50,000 per kg normally.
