The 9th Asia-Europe Meeting Foreign Ministers' Meeting (ASEM FMM 9) will be held at the National Convention Center of Vietnam in Hanoi from May 25 to 26, said Doan Xuan Hung, Vietnamese Vice Foreign Affairs Minister cum chairman of the meeting's organizing board at a press briefing Thursday.

The meeting, themed in "Forging a Closer Asia -- Europe Partnership to Address the Financial and Economic Crisis and Other Global Challenges", will be held in Vietnam at the foreign ministerial level for the first time, said Hung.

The meeting is expected to receive about 500 delegates from 45 ASEM members. So far, 30 foreign ministers have confirmed to attend the event, said Hung.

The meeting will focus on discussion on the impacts and measures to overcome difficulties caused by the global economic downturn, global issues like food security, energy security, and orientation issues like closer cooperation in areas of great concerns, especially economic and financial cooperation.

FMM 9 will assume a great responsibility of stepping up the implementation of ASEM-7 decisions ahead of ASEM-8 to be held in Brussels in 2010, according to the press release.

Apart the official meeting, there will be a number of sideline activities such as the Asia-Europe Business Forum, Asia-Europe Film Festival, 5th Asia-Europe Journalists' Seminar and Photography Exhibition on "Creative Economies".
