Cambodia fetes 20-year partnership with ADB

23-Nov-2012

Cambodia and the Asian Development Bank have marked 20 years of cooperation in a ceremony presided over by Prime Minister Hun Sen.

In an address at Wednesday's ceremony, Hun Sen said that Cambodia's macroeconomic and exchange rate stability as well as non-inflationary growth had allowed the government to reduce poverty by one per cent every year.

Average incomes have risen from US$200 in 1992 to about US$1,000 in 2012. In the same period, the poverty rate has dropped from 50 per cent to around 20 per cent.

Hun Sen noted that Cambodia was now the world's 15th fastest growing economy. It also ranks fifth among developing countries in achieving the Millennium Development Goals and is the first country in the Asia-Pacific to make substantial progress in improving social indicators, he said.
