Brunei Gas Carriers Sdn Bhd (BGC) will next year take over the running of vessels used to ship liquefied natural gas as it moves away from reliance on sub-contractors and allow for more local hiring, the Brunei Times quoted a company executive as saying.

The move will create more job opportunities for locals, said Sharifah Bazlina DP Malai Murad, BGC's policy development executive. She said that BGC will be handling all aspects of running LNG carriers, such as the hiring of marine personnel and other aspects of vessel operation and safety as opposed to just handling the financial side of running the vessels.

"The project came about two years ago because as of now, we provide manpower and contracting services to Shell. This instead, will allow us to take over the whole management and will provide more job opportunities and act as a stepping stone for Bruneians in LNG shipping management as it is operated by international entities," she said.
