KOPERASI Perda DTB and M&G Sustainable Aquaculture signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) yesterday to develop a shrimp aquaculture business with production targets of 25 to 40 tonnes set to begin in 2011, which will be sold to Hong Kong, Taiwan and China. Under the MoU, M&G Sustainable Aquaculture will also collaborate with another Bruneian company, TransGlobal Aquaventure Sdn Bhd to provide the technology and system for the production of Rostris shrimp in intensive farming, training, farm management and technology know-how, a press statement from M&G said. Signing the MoU on behalf of Koperasi Perda was its Chairman, Suni Haji Sulaiman and Muhkriz represented M&G.

The statement also said that M&G will also provide "contract farming" to Perda, whereby all produced shrimp will be bought-back at an agreed market price as stated in the MoU. "The shrimp project for Perda will be expected to take-off by 2011, once all feasibility studies, verification and prototype system have been completed by M&G," the statement added
