The FBM KLCI index gained 7.11 points or 0.38% on Friday. The Finance Index increased 0.51% to 18227.97 points, the Properties Index up 0.20% to 1084.59 points and the Plantation Index rose 0.20% to 8001.38 points. The market traded within a range of 10.05 points between an intra-day high of 1866.35 and a low of 1856.30 during the session.

Actively traded stocks include SAPNRG, PUC, RSENA-WA, SKH, HIBISCS-WC, HUAAN, SAPNRGC64, MYEG, AAX and DIALOG. Trading volume decreased to 1823.96 mil shares worth RM1900.52 mil as compared to Thursday’s 1886.47 mil shares worth RM2093.38 mil.

Leading Movers were NESTLE (+350 sen to RM154.50), HAPSENG (+14 sen to RM9.86), PETCHEM (+11 sen to RM8.26), RHBBANK (+6 sen to RM5.23) and MAXIS (+6 sen to RM5.74). Lagging Movers were PMETAL (-22 sen to RM4.32), ASTRO (-4 sen to RM2.00), AXIATA (-1 sen to RM5.45), PPB (-0 sen to RM19.14) and PBBANK (-0 sen to RM24.00). Market breadth was positive with 476 gainers as compared to 384 losers.

The KLCI back to positive territory and closed higher at 1863.46 points amid overnight gains in US market. The performance of our local bourse was lifted by buying interest in heavy weight counters such as Petronas Chemical, Maybank and Genting.

SET wins two Thailand ICT Excellence Awards 2018

Bangkok, March 30, 2018 - The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) group recently received two Distinguished Awards at Thailand ICT Excellence Awards 2018, organized by Thailand Management Association (TMA), for its innovative projects: the technology-enabled fund service platform "FundConnext"; and the trading function enabling investors to invest based on Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) technique namely, Settrade DCA Order. This reinforces SET's determination to adopt innovation to enhance investment services while continuously promoting savings discipline to ensure financial stability.

SET President Kesara Manchusree said under SET's strategic plan "Towards Sustainable Growth with Innovation", SET has put an emphasis on the development of the Thai capital market with innovation and new technology to make the Thai capital market to benefit all sectors. The recognition reflects SET's leading role in making use of innovations to benefit all related parties, particularly in terms of service development to facilitate investors to access all investment options extensively and conveniently, while cultivating the Thai people on savings discipline for their financial stability.

FundConnext and Settrade DCA Order were granted the Thailand ICT Excellence Awards 2018 in Business Enabler Projects category for their excellent business drive.

FundConnext innovation has been introduced to facilitate the public's investment in mutual funds conveniently and efficiently. Currently, FundConnext is adopted by 25 asset management firms and selling agents. Selling agents connect to this platform covering all type of agents from securities firms, life insurance firms, commercial banks to fintechs. This year, SET plans to expand its array of service to cover the entire payment process from investors to selling agents, and from selling agents to asset management firms.

Settrade DCA Order is a trading function on Settrade Streaming Application that allows investors to place orders in advance on a monthly or weekly basis according to the dollar-cost averaging (DCA) technique. At present, 28 brokers,or 85 percent of member companies with online trading system, are offering the Settrade DCA Order service while investors have increasingly been interested in this function. It is commonplace in journalism to write two types of articles at the transition point between the year that has passed and the New Year. As this writer qualifies as an “old hand” in observing Thailand with a track record dating back 14 years, it is time take a shot at what may unfold in Thailand in 2011.
