Bangkok Bank BBL, Thailand’s biggest lender, reported a 40.5 percent rise in quarterly net profit on Tuesday, driven by stronger lending and gains from the sale of a stake in a smaller Thai bank.

The outlook for the market leader and other Thai banks looks bright in the second half as the domestic political situation is expected to be more stable, which should help boost investment and consumption, analysts said.

The bank also booked a 2.45 billion baht gain after it sold a 19.26 percent stake in ACL Bank, now renamed Industrial and Commercial Bank of China (Thai) ICBCT, to China’s ICBC (601398) (1398).
