ASEAN Trading was mixed yesterday as the markets waited to see the start of earnings season in the USA, it will be a volatile week this week and buying on dips only should be the rule, there are a lot earnings and the market will get a few shocks in the next 14 days, both on the upside and downside.

The Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) composite index moved down 28.76 points, or 3.64 percent, to close at 760.90 points on Monday. Some 3.61 billion shares worth 35.21 billion baht (about 1.10 billion U.S. dollars) changed hands. Political issues will see the market move upto 20% lower.

Thailand SET touched a 21-month high as Government tax breaks lifted property shares. Markets in the ASEAN were mostly higher as we suggested they would be but look out for some consolidation in the ASEAN market tomorrow. Falls in the USA despite good economic data and a Fed statement suggesting continued stimulus will be short lived and the general trend of the market is to keep moving higher.

The USA traded higher for most of the day however that rally drifted in the closing session to a flat end. In Asia today we expect that direction to follow with most markets trading lower. Hong Kong and China failed to deliver a rally yesterday and still seem very cheap. India ran up as we expected but we expect all of the ASEAN markets to come back a little tomorrow, look for bargains, long term the trend is positive.

Thai stocks hit a six-week high on Tuesday in their first reaction to a long-awaited court ruling on the assets of former premier Thaksin Shinawatra after a long holiday weekend, but the region in general was mixed. Markets got an early boost from strong manufacturing data in Europe and news American International Group (AIG) was selling its Asian insurance business to Britain's Prudential (PRU.L), which drove both European markets and Wall Street up on Monday.
