China calls for new 'blueprint' for Asean, and NE Asia
The official, who asked not to be named, said the appeal was made during a meeting with foreign ministers from Asean, Japan and South Korea in Phnom Penh.
As Asean marks 15 years of cooperation with the three countries, Yang highlighted the need to "enhance practical cooperation in economic, trade, financial and other fields," the official said.
The Chinese foreign minister also called for measures to "strengthen internal drivers for East Asia's economic growth, effectively tackle economic and financial risks, and attract the private sector and local governments ... against the backdrop of a grave global economic and financial situation."
Yang also made suggestions for advancing Asean cooperation with the three countries in the political and security field, connectivity, and social, cultural and people-to-people areas, the official said.
He also expressed "China's readiness to step up communication and coordination" with Asean, Japan and South Korea "to play a greater role in promoting mutually beneficial cooperation in East Asia and bringing about closer relations among countries."
