Asean Summit : Key issues finalized by Asean officials
Bali - Senior officials of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) at a meeting here on 14 November 2011 (Monday) agreed on subject matters to be given priority at the 19th Asean summit and its related summit here on November 17-19.
The Indonesian Foreign Ministry`s Director-General for ASEAN Cooperation, Djauhari Oratmangun said in a written statement here on Monday, that the ASEAN delegates at a senior officials meeting had reached agreement on the choice of priority topics and subjects matters to be discussed by the summits.
The agreement on many issues was reached in a two-day meeting of the Asean senior officials which took place on November 13 through 14, 2011, he said.
The agreed issues will then be discussed by the Asean foreign ministers in their meeting on November 15.
The Asean senior officials meeting (SOM) discussed preparatory materials for several meetings including for the Asean foreign ministers meeting (AMM).
The preparatory materials will later be used for the 6th meeting of the Asean Council for Political-Security Community on November 16 and the Asean summit and its related summit which will be conducted on November 17 through 19, 2011.
All the meetings will be held in the Bali Nusa Dua Convention Center (BNDCC).
The Asean senior officials discussed four draft documents which will be produced in the 19th Asean Summit and its related meetings.
The draft documents which were discussed are firstly, the Bali Declaration on the Asean Community in a Global Community of Nations.
Secondly is the Declaration of EAS on the Principles for Mutually Beneficial Relations.
Thirdly the Declaration of EAS on ASEAN Connectivity and the fourth the Joint Declaration on Comprehensive Partnership between ASEAN and the United Nations (UN).
In addition, the Asean senior officials also talked about theASEAN Institute for Peace and Reconciliation, the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the South China Sea, the Asean Common Visa issue and the annual target of the Asean Community Development.
